The Actualized Canine, a new approach to dog companionship.

Good dog. Better you. Best life.

Certified Canine Training and Behavior Specialist serving Grand Junction and Colorado’s Western Slope.

Why my method works.

‘Sit’.

‘Down’.

‘Stay’.

I have seen plenty of dogs know how to perform these commands, but -

  • They can’t stay in a sit if a dog walks by

  • They bark at the UPS guy dropping off a package and don’t stop for 15 minutes after they leave

  • They only listen some of the time or only to one of the family members

  • They jump on anyone coming through the door

  • They pull on the leash the entire walk

  • When they are in the backyard they run and bark along the fence

  • They whine in the crate

  • They have shown growled or nipped at a child or a neighbor passing by

Why is that?

To the untrained eye, these issues all present as a lack of obedience when in acuality, they are behavior-driven.

This means you can’t ‘out-train’ them by asking for more obedience. You need a different way.

We’ll look at genetics, socialization, nutrition, health, environment…anything and everything that impacts your dog’s behavior and their ability to learn.

You, the owner, will also be learning how to step into a strong leadership role, communicate with your dog effectively (and without frustration), and craft your ideal relationship with them.

My method works because it’s holistic, thoughtful, and TRUE behavior modification. Rather than a short-term fix, we work to rewire your dog’s brain for long-lasting change that leaves them feeling more calm, confident, and, yes, obedient, too!

Kourtni is a fantastic trainer. She understands dog behavior (and human behavior) at a deep level and is able to patiently translate her knowledge into practical advice for dog owners. Our pup has been struggling with high-alertness and fence reactivity. She wasn’t paying any attention to us outside and never really got the hang of the leash. We finally contacted Kourtni and have been so excited to see big changes in our pup’s attention and reactions to our training in just three weeks. I highly recommend reaching out to her if you’re struggling to communicate with your dog. Having a fully trained behaviorist assess and direct your training is incredibly valuable and can save you and your pup a lot of frustration.

I would highly recommend her class and her training services. I love that she’s not just focused on training the dog but more focused on teaching the owner. At the end of the day, the owner is responsible for lasting change and she sees that through. I absolutely love her approach. It’s down to earth, actionable, and it MAKES SENSE. Meet the dog’s needs so it can produce the behavior you want.
